Upload the photo whose body and pose you want, then a clear photo of your head. SwapShoot replaces the whole head (face and hair) and keeps that body's pose, clothes and background. Everyone identifiable must be 18 or older and have agreed. A swap takes about a minute.

## What does putting your head on another body mean?

You have a photo you like: the outfit, the pose, the place and the light are right. You want to see yourself in it. Putting your head on that body means the photo stays as it was, and only the head is replaced with yours.

The body photo is the fixed reference. Its pose, clothes, hands, background and light come back as photographed. Your head photo supplies the face and the hair. The new head is rebuilt inside the shot, and the skin is matched to the light that is already there. Nothing else in the picture is redrawn.

## Is this a face swap or a head swap?

It is a head swap. A face swap changes the face and keeps the hair that was in the photo. A head swap changes the whole head, hair included. If your hair is part of how you look, a face swap on someone else's photo can still look like them. A head swap brings your hair with you.

The table below sums up the difference. The [face swap vs head swap comparison](https://swapshoot.com/face-swap-vs-head-swap) goes into more detail.

**Face swap vs head swap: what changes in the photo**

| Part of the photo | Face swap | Head swap |
|---|---|---|
| Face | Changed | Changed |
| Hair | Kept from the original photo | Rebuilt from your head photo |
| Pose, clothes and hands | Kept | Kept |
| Background and light | Kept | Kept |

## How do you put your head on another body?

Step 1: upload the body photo. Open SwapShoot in your browser and add the photo whose pose, clothes and background you want to keep. It should show one person.

Step 2: add your head photo and swap. Upload a clear photo of your own head, with your face and hair visible, then press Swap head. You can add both photos before signing in; sign in with Google or any email address when you press Swap. Before your first swap you confirm once that you are 18 or older and have permission from the people in your photos.

Step 3: check and download. About a minute later the result appears next to the original so you can compare them. Look at the face, then the hair line, then the edges where the neck meets the clothes. Download the result you want to keep. Results are kept in your Library for 24 hours, and uploads are not kept.

## What does it look like?

Each row is one swap: the body photo, the head photo used, and the result. Compare the first and last picture: the pose, the hands, the clothes, the background and the light stay the same, while the face and hair change.

## Whose photos can you use?

Everyone who can be recognised in either photo must be 18 or older and must have agreed to the edit. That includes the person in the body photo, even though their head is replaced. Their body, clothes and setting are still in the result. Ask before you use a photo of a friend, a partner or anyone else.

Use photos you took, photos taken of you, or photos you have permission to use. Do not use this to make it look like a real person was somewhere they were not, or to show someone in a way they have not agreed to. The [responsible use policy](https://swapshoot.com/responsible-use) sets out the rules.

## Which photos give the best result?

Start with one person and a clearly visible face in both photos. A head that faces roughly the same way in both pictures is easier to place than one turned the opposite way. Hair across the face, a hand over the eyes or an object in front of the head can need another try, and so can extreme angles. If a result does not look right, try a different head photo before changing the body photo.

The tool handles one face per swap and works with still photos only, not video. If you want to keep a group shot and change one person in it, choose that person and use a head photo of just them.

## How many free swaps do you get?

Each account gets 5 free swaps: the first result is clean, and the next four carry a small SwapShoot watermark. You do not pay anything for the free swaps. After that, see [plans and prices](https://swapshoot.com/pricing): as low as $0.09 a swap on a plan, with no watermark.
