If someone blinked, you don't need a reshoot. Use a second photo of the same person with eyes open as the head photo and swap it onto the shot you want to keep. The pose and framing stay; the whole head and hair are rebuilt, not a face-only paste. A swap takes about a minute.

## Why swap the head instead of reshooting?

A blink can spoil a photo that is otherwise right. The light is good, the pose works and the framing is what you wanted. Often the moment cannot be repeated, and a new shot would not look the same. If you took more than one frame, there is usually another picture of the same person with their eyes open.

A head swap uses that second picture. The shot you want to keep stays the fixed reference: the pose, clothes, hands, background and light come back as photographed. Only the head is replaced, and its face and hair are rebuilt to fit the light that is already there. The [pose-preserving head swap guide](https://swapshoot.com/pose-preserving-head-swap) explains why the rest of the shot stays the same.

## What a head swap keeps

These rows are not closed-eye fixes: each one swaps in a different person's head. They show what a head swap keeps. Compare the first and last picture in each row: the pose, the hands, the clothes, the background and the light stay the same. For a blink, the head photo would be another shot of the same person.

### Rooftop sunset

- New head: ![New head: woman with long black box braids on a plain grey background](https://swapshoot.com/img/rooftop-sunset-head.jpg)
- Swapped: ![Swapped: the same rooftop sunset shot with long box braids; the pose, hand, bikini top and backlight are unchanged](https://swapshoot.com/img/rooftop-sunset-result.jpg)

The curls become long box braids. The hand at the chin, the striped bikini top, the railing and the sun behind the head stay unchanged.

### Olive jacket

- New head: ![New head: clean-shaven man with short dark side-parted hair on a plain grey background](https://swapshoot.com/img/olive-jacket-head.jpg)
- Swapped: ![Swapped: the same forest shot with short dark side-parted hair; the olive jacket, pose and dappled light are unchanged](https://swapshoot.com/img/olive-jacket-result.jpg)

A buzz cut and stubble become short, side-parted dark hair and a clean shave. The olive shirt jacket and the dappled forest light stay unchanged.

## Which photos do you need?

You need two photos of the same person. The first is the shot with the closed eyes, the one you want to keep. The second is a clear photo of that person with their eyes open. A frame from the same session is a good choice, because the hair and the light are likely to be close to the first shot.

Pick the open-eyes photo where the head faces roughly the same way as in the blink frame. A head turned the opposite way is harder to place. Hair across the face, a hand over the eyes or an object in front of the head can need another try, and so can extreme angles.

Both photos must show someone who has agreed to the edit and is 18 or older. This is for fixing your own photos and photos of people who have said yes. It is not for editing pictures of strangers.

## How do you fix closed eyes in three steps?

Step 1: upload the photo to keep. Open SwapShoot in your browser and add the blink frame as the first photo. This supplies the pose, clothes, hands, background and light.

Step 2: add the open-eyes photo and swap. Upload the second photo of the same person as the new head, then press Swap head. You can add both photos before signing in; sign in with Google or any email address when you press Swap. Before your first swap you confirm once that you are 18 or older and have permission from the people in your photos.

Step 3: check and download. About a minute later the result appears next to the original so you can compare them. Look at the eyes first, then the hair line, then the edges where the neck meets the clothes. Download the result you want to keep. Results are kept in your Library for 24 hours, and uploads are not kept.

## What about group photos?

The tool handles one face per swap. In a group shot, choose the person who blinked and use a head photo of just that person. Everyone else in the picture stays as photographed. If more than one person blinked, each of them is a separate swap.

A result is not guaranteed to be perfect on the first try. If it does not look right, try a different open-eyes photo before changing the shot you want to keep. The tool works with still photos only, not video.

If you want a different person's head in the shot rather than the same person with open eyes, read how to [put your head on another body](https://swapshoot.com/put-head-on-another-body). The same rules apply: everyone shown is 18 or older and has agreed.

## Why the whole head, and what does it cost?

Some tools paste a new face over the old one and keep the photographed hair. SwapShoot replaces the whole head, hair included. Because both photos show the same person, the hair in the result comes from a photo of their own hair, and the skin is matched to the light in the shot you kept.

Each account gets 5 free swaps: the first result is clean, and the next four carry a small SwapShoot watermark. You do not pay anything for the free swaps. After that, see [plans and prices](https://swapshoot.com/pricing): as low as $0.09 a swap on a plan, with no watermark.

## Questions

### Can AI fix closed eyes without Photoshop?

Yes, if you have another photo of the same person with their eyes open. SwapShoot swaps in the head from that photo in about a minute, with no masks and no retouching pass.

### Do I need another photo of the same person?

Yes. The open eyes come from the head photo, so you need a second photo of the same person with their eyes open. They must be 18 or older and have agreed.

### Will the hair and head angle still look natural?

The hair is rebuilt with the head and the skin is matched to the light in the original. A head photo that faces roughly the same way as the blink frame is easier to place; extreme angles may need another try.
